Du kommer väl ihåg hur du använder menyn längst upp till vänster på varje sida? Om inte, här är en repetition: Du använder den på så sätt att du först går till den bokstav det land du söker efter börjar på (begynnelsebokstaven). Väl där tittar du i menyn igen, och där finns en "snabblänk" till landet ifråga. Landets valutahistoria Gamla tider Mynt har använts länge i Afghanistan. Här är tre exempel på gamla mynt. Under mynten låter jag säljaren av mynten (Barnowlc Gems and Coins) berätta om dom. Dom sålde vid tillfället flera likartade mynt. Jag köpte tre.
"Tye 134 SCARCE (unpublished prior to the Tye "Jitals" book), billon (about 8% silver) Islamic jitals. Ghorids of Ghor, Shafurqan mint Afghanstan. Elephant with rider holding pole axe facing left / Islamic text in four lines. Sultan Ghiyath hammered 1163-1203 AD. Average condition for scarce type. Ex Dietner Gorny. Average 14mm diameter, over 1/2 inch wide. The Ghorids were somewhat provincial muslims who used figural type coins. The elephant is a symbol of India, so on this coin may have represented military power in India".
Ett afghanskt rike bildades redan 1747 men landets otillgänglighet gjorde att det var svårt att få ett centraliserat styre att fungera. De afghanska stammarna styrde i mycket sig själva även efter rikets bildande, precis som de gjort innan. Den dynasti som ändå bildades 1747 blev inledningen av Durrani-dynastin som faktiskt existerade ända till 1973 då en kupp avsatte dåvarande kungen Mohammad Zahir Shah. Vid två tillfällen under 1800 talet (1838 och 1878) så försökte britterna invadera landet. Afghanska stamkrigare lyckades delvis avstyra invasionsförsöken. Britterna får ändå en viss kontroll över landet, i synnerhet dess utrikespolitik. Den första egna nationella valutan fick landet 1881. Valutan hette Kabuli rupie. Kabuli rupie hade flera delenheter: 1 Kabuli rupie var detsamma som 2 qiran, 3 abbassi, 12 shahi eller 60 paise. Trots introduktionen av Kabuli rupie så fortsatte den indiska rupien att vara den dominerande valutan ändå till 1920 talet. Sedlar trycktes upp i Kabuli rupie från 1919 i valörerna 1, 5, 50 och 100 rupie (två varianter av 1 rupies sedlar). Valörerna heter P1-P2 och P4-P5 i Standard Catalog of World Paper Money. Någon P3 finns inte av någon anledning. Britterna behöll kontrollen över landet till efter första världskriget. 1921 sluts efter diverse trätande en överenskommelse mellan britter och afghaner. Afghanistan får därmed kontroll över även sin utrikespolitik. På sätt och vis kan man säga att Afghanistan blev ett självständigt land efter denna överenskommelse.
År 1919 hade emiren Amanullah kommit till makten. 1926 ändrade han sin titel till kung och därmed var kungadömet Afghanistan fött. Nästa utgåva sedlar kom år 1926 i samband med att kungadömet grundades. Valutan hette Afghanis. Kungadömets första utgåva benämns P6-P10 i Krauses Standard Catalog of World Paper Money. Afghanis fick delenheten pul (1 afghanis = 100 pul). Amanullah tvingades till landsflykt 1929, av upprorsmakare som inte uppskattade hans ganska västinriktade reformer. Upprorsmakarna leddes av en stamledaren Bacha-i Saqao. Bacha-i Saqao gav ut sedlar i valutan Afghanis (P11-P13), men också 1 Rupies sedlar (P14). Bacha-i Saqao lyckades hålla Kabul i bara några månader innan han besegrades av Muhammad Nadir Khan (kusin till emiren Amanullah). Muhammad Nadir Khan utropade sig till ny kung - en befattning han höll till 1933 då han efterträddes av sin son Muhammad Zahir Shah.
De sedlar som hittills givits ut fick nu gälla som valuta till 1936. Då gav nya kungen Muhammad Zahir Shah ut sin första serie sedlar. Valutan hette (och heter fortfarande) afghanis. Kungens första utgåva benämns P15-P20.
HM King Zahir Shah 1914-2007 1939 grundades Bank Of Afghanistan (Da Afghanistan Bank). Deras första serie sedlar benämns P21-P27.
Den ovan nämnda Muhammad Zahir Shah var kung ända till 1973 då han avsatts och en republik grundas. Da Afghanistan Bank har verkat ända sedan 1939, utan avbrott. Deras utgåvor kallas "Kingdom issues" fram till 1972. Och sedan dess av förklarliga skäl för "Republic issues". En sedel med ett intressant motiv gavs ut från 1979. Du har den här.
P55, 10 afghanis. 1979. UNC. Jag har naturligtvis försökt få reda på vad motivet på sedeln föreställer. Och jag har lyckats. Så här svarade Daom Bank i Kabul på min fråga om detta : "The picture on the back of the note is the Salang Pass. The highway which links Kabul to the north of Afghanistan. The highway has been build on the Hindukhsh mountins. Build by king Mohammad Zahir Shah" Så nu vet ni det. Vill du veta hur det är att köra nämnda väg ? Läs det som finns bakom länken härnere. Så här ser sedelns (P55) motiv ut på vad som tycks vara ett fotografi. Motorvägsbyggaren kung Zahir Shah var kung i landet från 1933 till 1973. Läs mer om kungen på www.sabawoon.com. Där står mycket riktigt att han genomförde ett antal projekt, vilket motorvägsbyggen var ett... Zahir Shah kunde återvända till Afghanistan, 86 år gammal, efter det att talibanerna drevs på flykten. Han återfick inte sin forna makt men påstås ändå ha haft ett visst informellt inflytande över vad som skedde i landet.
Kung Zahir Shah är nu död. Han avled i juli 2007.

SCOWPM. Jag sökte reda på vad motivet
föreställer. Och jag fick svar från Afghanistan. DAOM Bank i Kabul berättade följande
för mig i ett mejl:
"The picture on the back of the 20 AF note is the
Balahisar old military fort on the top of the hills of Kabul, build by king Amer sher ali khan".

Nästa sedel är från 90 talet.
P57, 50 afghanis 1991. UNC. Motivet på sedeln är The Darlaman Palace i Kabul,
byggt av kung Amanullah khan (ni minns han som tvingades till landsflykt av
stamledaren Bacha-i Saqao - jo jag berättade om det längre upp). Så här skriver http://www.kabulcitytours.com om fortet ifråga: "This famous palace commissioned to be built by King Amanullah and designed by French architect, M. Godard, in the early 1900’s is a site to be seen. It has been completely destroyed in the war. However, it is still as majestic as ever. As you wander through the empty corriders and enter what once was the grand ballroom, you can’t help but imagine what a treasure this place was when it was in tact. The views are breathtaking as you look out from the balcony at Kabul City". Till stora delat förstört av kriget alltså. De delar av Kabul som fortet i ligger var hårt drabbat av kriget 1992-96, mellan Talibanerna och deras motståndare. Amanullah khan - han som byggde fortet - styrde landet från 1919 till 1929. Kungen hann på dessa 10 år med att skriva vänskapsavtal med Sovjet, ge indiska nationalister asyl i Kabul och stöta sig med britter.Inrikespolitiskt införde han den nya valutan Afghanis (1923) och fem år senare, 1928, etablerade han centralbanken Bank-i-Melli Läs mer om honom på Wikipedia

1996 tog talibanerna över styret i landet.
Notera dock att flera olika varianter
av Afghanis var i cirkulation i landet under 1900 talets sista år och in på
2000 talet. Jag presenterar dom här nere:
Talibanernas och exilafghanernas Afghani kallades Rabbini Afghanis (AFAR), nordalliansens kallades Jumbishi eller Dostumi Afghanis (AFAD) efter krigsherren. Det går att skilja myndigheternas afghanis från nordalliansens om man tyda persiska siffror. Så här gör man enligt nätets informationskällor: ”For one, it is a shade darker than Jumbishi money. Also, the red serial numbers, printed in Persian, not Arabic numerals, begin with 1 through 34. Any serial number higher than 35 denotes Jumbishi money”. Även om de icke-officiella Afghanis valutorna enligt västerländska värderingar var falskmynteri, så fanns en mer eller mindre accepterad växelkurs mellan dom. Nord alliansens Afghani var värda hälften av officiella Afghani. Sommaren 2000 rapporterades från Afghanistan att den pakistanska rupien mer eller mindre ersatt landets egen valuta som allmän valuta. Vid den här tidpunkten var en pakistansk rupie värd omkring 1100 Afghanis. Bara åtta år tidigare, 1992, hade förhållandet varit 1:8. Det om något säger en del om den afghanska valutans fall. Det påstås förresten att talibanerna försökte introducera Pakistans valuta som officiell valuta i Afghanistan. Orsaken ska förstås ha varit oredan med Afghanistans egna Afghanis. I en artikel från januari 2002 skriven av www.csmonitor.com, beklagar sig en handlare över valutakaoset. Han säger: "It's a big problem, In one day, we can turn over 10 million Afghanis (US$170), and we have to look at each banknote, one by one”. Webbplatsen påstår vidare att “Shopkeepers take the government Afghani or the Jumbishi, but prefer the government bills”.
Den 30 januari 2002 publicerade BBC en artikel om
valutaproblemen i landet. Ett av dessa problem är just att flera olika
varianter av valutan Afghanis är - eller har varit - i cirkulation. Artikeln är delvis inaktuell, en valutareform har
genomförts (se nedan), men den ger en bakgrund till landets ekonomiska
problem.

I oktober 2002 introducerades en ny Afghanis för att bringa reda i valutakaoset. Kursen vid inväxling av dessa blev: 1 ny Afghani = 1000 Taliban afghanis (ditintills officiella valutan) = 2000 Nord allians Afghanis.
Här ovan har vi ett urklipp ur Metro Stockholm 8 okt 2002. Den pakistanska valutan har fortsatt starkt inflytande i Afghanistan, liksom US dollarn. Det har gått så långt att centralbankens chef uppmanat afghanerna att sluta upp med att använda utländsk valuta, för att istället stötta den egna inhemska. -slut
