Numismatic Society of Ireland (Northern Branch). The Numismatic Society of Ireland
was founded on 3 March 1961 in Dublin. Later that year, on 6 September, the
Northern Branch was founded in Belfast by Wilfred (Bill) Seaby, Keeper of
Numismatics, Ulster Museum, and Professor Michael Dolley, Chair of
Numismatics, the Queen's University of Belfast, both, alas, no longer with
us. |

Numismatic Society of Ireland - Dublin. The Society was founded in Dublin
on 3 March 1961. It has as its objects the study of Numismatics in Ireland.
The first Chairman was Dr AEJ Went, and opening talks were given by Emil
Szauer (The Early Coinage of America) , Dr Went (Modern English Crowns) and,
at the next meeting, (Bullion Marks on some British Coins), Mr S Ferguson
(Indian Rupees) and Professor Brindley (Some coins of the twelve great
Cæsars). |

The Royal Numismatic
Society. The Society was founded in 1836 as the Numismatic Society of London
and received the title of the Royal Numismatic Society by Royal Charter in
1904. The Society is an academic body of charitable status concerned with
research into all branches of numismatics. Its lectures and publications
deal with classical, Asian, medieval and modern coins, paper money, tokens
and medals. |
